We're
going to find out what is Baptism all about, and why it is important?
Messianics and Christians who
believe in Yeshua should follow His example, and be Baptized.
Baptism is for believers of
Messiah.
His followers were Baptized,
and you
will see this later in this
article.
What
Does Baptism Mean?
Baptism
Greek 907
βαπτίζω
baptizō
bap-tid'-zo
From a derivative of G911; to make whelmed (that
is,
fully wet); used
only (in the New Testament) of ceremonial ablution,
especially
(technically) of the ordinance of Christian baptism: - baptist,
baptize, wash.
"to make fully
wet"
What
is
Baptism
All
About?
Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that as many
of us as were baptized into Messiah Yeshua were baptized into His
death?
By being Baptized this brings us
into his
death, it shows us the importance of Baptism.
We are to live and walk the way Yeshua walked.
Galatians
3:27
For
as
many
of
you
as
were
baptized
into
Messiah
have
put on Messiah.
By being baptized into Messiah
we put on Messiah
This is important
because...
1
Corinthians 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption,
and this mortal must put on immortality.
This is why it is so important
that we put on Yeshua . By doing so in a spiritual sense we put on
incorruptible, and
immortality over over bodies, minds, and spirits, so
that we too become incorruptible.
Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with
water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than
I,
whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the
Holy Spirit and fire.
The word "Fire" in the Greek means:
Greek 4442
πῦρ
pur
poor
A primary word; “fire” (literally
or
figuratively, specifically
lightning): - fiery, fire.
On fire figuratively, fire
represents
to
be purged, made
clean, and
pure.
John 1:33 I did not know Him, but He
who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'Upon whom you see the
Spirit descending,
and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with
the Holy Spirit.'
John Baptized with water, but
Yeshua Baptized with the Holy Spirit.
Mark
16:15
And
He
said
to
them,
Go
into
all
the
world,
proclaim
the
gospel
to all the creation.
Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be
saved, but he who
does not believe will be condemned.
John 3:5 Yeshua answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of
water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of Elohim.
Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be
saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
Those who believe will be Baptized
and because of their belief they will be saved.
First a
person has to be saved, and then they have to realize that they need to
be baptized, People that are saved will want to do this out of
obedience.
Baptism
is very important for a true follower of Messiah.
Believers should be
Baptized!
Of course
their is the thief on the Cross next to Yeshua, and he
repented at the last minute, and
of
course was not Baptized.
Still he was forgiven.
He certainly did not follow Messiah UNTIL that very last moment.
At the very moment on
the cross his heart changed.
Yeshua knew it, and accepted it.
This is what;s called
"At
the
last
minute
death
bed confessions"
1 Corinthians 12:13 or by one Spirit we were all baptized
into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—
and
have all been made to drink into one Spirit.
Acts 1:5 for John truly baptized with water, but
you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."
How
Should
Baptism
Be
Performed?
Matthew
28:19 Go
therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
At first glance Matthew 28:19 seems
to be different than Acts 2:38.
Now lets take a closer look.
Acts 2:38 Then
Peter said to them, "Repent, and let
every one of you be baptized in the name of Yeshua Messiah for the
remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:19, and Acts
2:38
really isn't any different at all.
Matthew 28:19 is the Command
of Yeshua
The command of what to do.
Acts 2:38 is the order.
The order is how to do it.
Acts 2:38 Then
Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in
the name of Yeshua Messiah for the remission of sins;
and you shall
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
For a
deeper understanding the
"JP
Green
Interlinear
Bible"
in
this
verse says "ON THE NAME" of Yeshua.
Some verse in the manuscripts, like Acts 19:5 say "into"
The E. W. Bullinger Companion
Bible states that it should be "into" which means your entering
something.
The Jay P. Green Sr.
Interlinear Bible says the same thing. "into"
Why is the word "into" so
important? The reason being is because you
are entering something.
It is an agreement between you, and the Heavenly Father. It
is a vow, very much like a marriage vow.
"In"
"into" or "on" the name is really all about the athority giving by
Yeshua.
The word "into" gives us an idea that ths is something we are entering.
The word "on" gives us an idea of building upon the Messiah's name.
The word "in" tell us that we have entered are are cohabitating with
our Savior.
Now to break this verse down...
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them,
Repent,
"REPENT" to Who?
The Heavenly "FATHER" of course.
and let every
one of you be baptized
in the name of Yeshua Messiah
"THE SON"
for the remission of sins; and
you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
"HOLY SPIRIT"
Here it is the "Father" "Son"
and "Holy Spirit" right here in Acts 2:38.
"Into"
the
name
of
the
Father,
and
of
the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Matthew
28:19,
and
Acts
2:38
are
one
of
the
same! If
understood, and applied correctly.
Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that as
many of us as were baptized into Messiah Yeshua were baptized into His
death?
Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they
were baptized in the name of the Lord Yeshua.
JP Green Interlinear Bible
proves that this verse should read this way "INTO" the name.
The word "into means "entering" Like you are entering something.
Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as were baptized into
Messiah have put on Messiah.
"INTO" Once again you are
"entering"
Messiah we are putting on the
faith of Messiah.
We are being brought into unity with Messiah.
More Verses About Baptizing in
Messiah's Name
Act
8:16
For
as
yet
He
had
fallen
upon
none
of
them.
They
had
only been baptized in the
name of the Lord Yeshua.
Acts 10:48 And he commanded
them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him
to stay a few days.
Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of
the Lord Yeshua.
Acts
22:16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash
away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.'
Romans
6:3 Or do you not know that
as many of us as were baptized into Messiah Yeshua were baptized into
His death?
Galatians
3:27
or
as
many
of
you
as
were
baptized
into
Messiah
have
put on Messiah.
So we see that there are about
9 verses that seem to indicate that people being were Baptized in the
name of Messiah.
This is being done in his authority and not the formula.
Why
Should
Baptism
Be
Done?
If we understand Acts 2:38
as mentioned before...that we are
to repent to The Heavenly Father
In the Son's name
and then you'll recieve the gift of the Holy Spirit
Acts 2:38 Then
Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in
the name of Yeshua Messiah for the remission of sins;
and you shall
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
"receive
the
gift
of
the
Holy
Spirit" We need his Holy Spirit in us so that we may have eternal
life.
With this understanding we can see that Acts 2:38 isn't any different
than Matthew 28:19
Matthew
28:19
Go
therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into
the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Romans
8:11
But
if
the
Spirit
of Him who raised Yeshua from the dead dwells in you,
He who raised Messiah from the dead
will also give life to your mortal
bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
We
need the Holy Spirit in us to be in the first Resurrection (first
fruits)
2
Timothy
1:14
That
good
thing
which
was
committed to you, keep by the Holy
Spirit who dwells in us.
It
is
very
clear here, in this verse
that the Holy Spirit can dwell in us if we are believers of Messiah.
We do it so we can have the gift of
the Holy Spirit.
Conclusion
What
does Baptism mean?
Baptism
means
to
be
immersed
(to make fully wet)
What
is Baptism all about?
Simply
put
we
are
to
follow Yeshua's example of obedience.
It is an out ward sign
showing our
faith in Yeshua.
It also shows that we enter into His death, and are
covered with eternal life.
How
should Baptism be
performed?
It
should
be
performed into the
name of The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Why
should Baptism be done?
To
receive
the
gift of the Holy
Spirit, and to be obedient to Messiah, by following his example.
Mark
8:34
When
He
had
called
the
people
to
Himself,
with
His
disciples
also, He
said to them,
"Whoever desires to
come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow
Me.
Sense this is a very important
topic, and sense the scripture would
seem to indicate, at least two different ways of doing a Baptism.
Even though Matthew
28:19,
and Acts
2:38
are
one of the
same.
Matthew
28:19,
is
the
prescription,
and
Acts
2:38
is the application.
